When I purchased this fifties era bungalow, it had no landscaping and even less curb appeal (see photo) but what it did have was a 220 foot deep lot.
I was able to make the front passable with landscaping and a few added architectural details and then I turned my efforts to the rear. The ample depth of the lot allowed it to be broken into four distinct sections; the first, a patio section the second, a Japanese style lawn garden and the third and fourth sections dedicated to my bonsai collection; the nearer of these two areas to house for well-established bonsai and the other for bonsai in training.
The garage was made to serve serve as a bonsai studio, opening into both of these areas. This arrangement worked out quite well for several years until my fourth brain surgery forced me to sell both my bonsai collection and my company. I subsequently turned those last two areas into a Zen garden and a grass track for my handicaped electric wheelchairs and scooters.
