Comprising a Life

The Bonsai, Travels and Haiku of Vaughn Banting

The story of my dirt track and its recent conversion to a grass track

Behind my current Zen Garden there is a section of land that was first used as my "bonsai in training area" and then when I could no longer work on my trees due to declining health, a place for my X wife's grandchildren to play.

Now that I am divorced from afore mentioned wife and the source of my unhappiness, I have created a dirt track in its place for poeple like myself who just want a place to have some mindless fun, although I eventually had to convert it to grass to discourage errosion.

When what is now a dirt track served as a training area for my bonsai collection (shown here are some visitors from Japan)

Looking from my current Zen garden into the space that I turned into my dirt track

Same space but now used as my dirt track

Neighborhood kid planting a fake Boulder for me

Scooters and wheelchairs used on the track

Trying out spacings of rock placements with another neighborhood kid

Checking for enough space to go around all the rock groupings

Doing figure eights using four-wheel scooters

The rocks proving to be placed just right

Dirt track using just motorized wheelchairs

Practicing avoiding head-on collisions

When the electric scooters and motorized wheelchairs are all in use, driving gets a little dicey but a lot of fun

Adding more soil to create topography on the track

Continuing to add soil

Soil placed to bank the curves

Dirt track topography improved and Japanese maples added. More plant material will be added as the dirt track develops.
